Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) is making headlines with a bold proposal: creating a new $250 bill featuring Donald Trump’s portrait.

Wilson argues that inflation has made cash transactions more cumbersome, and a higher-value bill would be both practical and a tribute to what he calls Trump’s economic legacy.

“Most valuable bill for the most valuable president!” Wilson wrote in his announcement, sharing an AI-generated image of the proposed bill featuring Trump’s face prominently in the center.

Legal and Practical Challenges

Despite excitement from Trump supporters, the proposal faces serious hurdles. Since 1866, U.S. law has prohibited living people from appearing on currency to prevent the appearance of monarchy. Additionally, the government stopped printing bills larger than $100 in 1969, citing a lack of demand.

Some critics also questioned whether paper money is even relevant today, with digital payments dominating modern transactions. “Who even carries cash anymore?” one user remarked online.

More Efforts to Honor Trump

Wilson’s proposal isn’t the only attempt to cement Trump’s legacy through national symbols. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has introduced legislation to add Trump’s face to Mount Rushmore, arguing that his presidency was one of the most significant in American history.

“President Trump’s leadership has earned him a place among the greats,” Luna stated.

Public reaction to Wilson’s bill has been mixed. While some conservatives see it as a meaningful way to recognize Trump’s presidency, others argue there are more pressing national issues. Critics view it as political theater rather than a serious proposal.
