Caught on Camera, Yet Allowed to Walk Free
Moments later, Doris was caught on CCTV violently shoving Lancaster into the path of a moving bus. Lancaster hit the bus doors headfirst and collapsed on the pavement.
She sustained injuries to her head, shoulder, and legs—but it could have been far worse. Had the timing been just seconds off, she might have been run over.
Trauma, Not Justice
Lancaster now suffers from post-traumatic stress. She has moved away from the city in fear of ever encountering Doris again. “It was extremely scary,” she told the court. The emotional and physical toll of the incident continues to affect her daily life.

Despite admitting to both racially aggravated assault and causing bodily harm, Doris walked free. The judge issued a suspended sentence—10 months with no jail time—citing Doris’s mental health challenges and history of trauma. She was also ordered to attend rehabilitation and therapy.
