Gus had been a faithful companion to Michael for over a decade, serving as a source of comfort and support, particularly during Michael's ongoing battle with Parkinson's Disease, which he was diagnosed with at the young age of 29.

Despite the challenges of living with a chronic illness, Michael found solace in Gus's companionship. Reflecting on their bond, Michael expressed gratitude for the emotional support Gus provided, saying, "I didn’t rescue Gus. You can argue that he rescued me."

Gus played a significant role in Michael's life, accompanying him on daily walks in Central Park, where they became familiar faces to many. Michael humorously noted that people often stopped them not because of his fame, but to interact with Gus.

In a touching gesture, Michael's wife, Tracy Pollan, gifted them a bench in Central Park, commemorating their bond as "True New Yorkers." This bench later served as a poignant memorial for Gus, filled with cherished memories.
