At 61 years old, Michael J. Fox has welcomed a new addition to his family, but it's not what you might expect. Instead of another child, he's adopted a furry friend, a dog named Blue!
Michael shared the joyous news on his Instagram account, writing, "Hey Blue, welcome to your new home!" This new chapter comes nearly two years after the passing of his beloved dog companion, Gus.
Gus had been a faithful companion to Michael for over a decade, serving as a source of comfort and support, particularly during Michael's ongoing battle with Parkinson's Disease, which he was diagnosed with at the young age of 29.
Despite the challenges of living with a chronic illness, Michael found solace in Gus's companionship. Reflecting on their bond, Michael expressed gratitude for the emotional support Gus provided, saying, "I didn’t rescue Gus. You can argue that he rescued me."
Gus played a significant role in Michael's life, accompanying him on daily walks in Central Park, where they became familiar faces to many. Michael humorously noted that people often stopped them not because of his fame, but to interact with Gus.
In a touching gesture, Michael's wife, Tracy Pollan, gifted them a bench in Central Park, commemorating their bond as "True New Yorkers." This bench later served as a poignant memorial for Gus, filled with cherished memories.
One particular memory that stands out is Gus's unwavering presence during Michael's recovery from spinal surgery in 2018. As Michael returned home in a wheelchair, Gus greeted him with comforting gestures, offering reassurance during a difficult time.
The loss of a beloved pet is undoubtedly heartbreaking, but Michael finds comfort in the love they shared. Now, with Blue joining the family, Michael is ready to open his heart to another furry companion.
The announcement of Blue's adoption has been met with an outpouring of love and support, with thousands of people expressing excitement for the newest member of Michael's family. Many have noted Blue's resemblance to Einstein, the iconic dog from "Back to the Future."
In the end, Michael's story reminds us of the power of love and companionship, whether it's between humans or their four legged friends. As Michael puts it, "You give love, you get love."
