In the heart of Illinois lives a family that's not just big, but really big. Leo and Ruth Zanger, who've been married for an incredible 66 years, have a family so vast that it's hard to imagine keeping track of everyone. How many grandkids, you ask? A whopping 100!

The Zangers welcomed their 100th grandchild in 2015, after years of anticipation. And when they realized they were at 99, it became a bit of a race to see who would bring in that monumental 100th addition.

Now, technically, not all of these kids are just grandkids. Some are great-grandchildren, and there's even a great, great-grandchild in the mix. But when your family tree branches out this far, those labels start to matter less.

Baby number 100, Jaxton Leo Zanger, holds a special place as the 46th great-grandchild. You might wonder who's keeping count in a family this vast. With 53 grandchildren alone, it's a wonder they can remember everyone's names! The Zangers started their family journey with 12 children of their own, spanning over 27 years from the eldest to the youngest. That's more than most people ever plan on having, but for Leo and Ruth, a big family was always part of the plan.

Family gatherings for the Zangers are no small affair. In fact, they often have to rent out a church building just to accommodate everyone. It's one heck of an occasion, with laughter, stories, and love filling the air. Donna Lane, one of Leo and Ruth's daughters, sums it up perfectly: "When we get together, it’s big. It’s really big." But with a family this size, there's never a shortage of helping hands or lively conversations.

And while some might find it daunting to coordinate events for such a large clan, most of the Zanger family is right there in Illinois. Imagine trying to wrangle hundreds of relatives spread across different states! Leo jokes that their family "could start their own town," and honestly, it's not hard to believe. With more young families just getting started, the Zanger family tree is likely to keep growing.
