Valentine’s Day is a time for love and kindness, and First Lady Melania Trump spent the morning bringing smiles to young patients at The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. The Children's Inn provides a free "home away from home" for children undergoing treatment for serious health conditions.

A Special Visit for Brave Young Patients

As the First Lady arrived, she was warmly greeted by the inn’s CEO, Jennie Lucca, along with staff members and approximately 15 young patients, many of whom are battling rare genetic diseases like sickle cell anemia and immunodeficiency disorders. The children, some on bed rest and others connected to IVs and oxygen tanks, welcomed her with waves and smiles.

Dressed in festive red, Trump sat with the children at tables decorated with pink and red Valentine’s Day decorations. Together, they decorated heart-shaped sugar cookies with icing and shared handmade paper maché hearts.
Moments of Encouragement and Joy

Throughout the visit, the First Lady exchanged heartfelt words with the children, reminding them to "stay strong" and letting them know they were in her thoughts and prayers. She also took time to recognize the dedication of the NIH staff and caregivers, thanking them for their hard work in providing support and care for the children and their families.

Before leaving, Trump handed out red Valentine's Day cards to each child, making sure every young patient felt special on this holiday of love and kindness.
A Tradition of Giving Back

This visit marked the third year in a row that the First Lady spent Valentine's Day at The Children's Inn. Her continued support highlights the importance of uplifting children facing serious health challenges and bringing joy to their difficult journeys.
For these young patients and their families, a simple act of kindness on Valentine's Day made all the difference.
