While awaiting sentencing in 1998, Stewart appeared in the film Slam, which mirrored some of his struggles.
Today, he credits Kim for supporting his release, thanking her in an Instagram post: “Freedom is imminent and success is assured.”
How Kim Got Involved
Kim met Stewart during a prison visit in July. Inspired by his story, she wrote a letter to the judge advocating for his release.
Judge Robert Salerno approved the appeal, citing Stewart’s remorse and his achievements, including earning a GED, mentoring youth, and completing 1,400 hours of educational programs.
Kim’s Broader Mission
This is not Kim’s first foray into justice reform. Partnering with the advocacy group #cut50, she has worked on prison visits, lobbied governors, and met with White House officials.
Her efforts have earned both praise and criticism, with some questioning whether her activism is sincere or simply a publicity stunt.
