The ceremony was live-streamed, allowing fans to share in the special moment as Washington received his baptism certificate. He was also presented with a minister license, which will allow him to be ordained in the future.
Reflecting on a Long Journey
During the service, Washington shared his thoughts on the milestone, saying, “In one week, I turn 70. It took a while, but I’m here.”
He recalled a memory from his youth when a woman prophesied that he would travel the world and preach to millions. “If God can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you,” he said, inspiring those in attendance.
Grateful for Family Support
Washington also thanked his wife, Pauletta, for her support during the ceremony. He expressed his gratitude for the church and reaffirmed his commitment to God, saying, “Anything I can do, I will do for this church, the Almighty.”

In a recent Esquire essay, Washington shared how his faith grew over the years, including key moments that helped him understand God's role in his life.
He also emphasized that he is unafraid to publicly speak about his faith, regardless of what others may think. “You can’t talk like that and win Oscars,” he said, highlighting the challenges of being open about faith in Hollywood.
